Queen + Paul Rodgers have been workling on new music for a little while now, and the first result is now available. On Saturday (December 1st), the group released a song called “Say It’s Not True” to mark World AIDS Day. The song, which was written by Queen drummer Roger Taylor for Nelson Mandela’s 46664 charity in November 2003, was originally performed that month by Taylor, Queen guitarist Brian May, and former Eurythmics guitarist Dave Stewart at the first 46664 concert in Cape Town, South Africa. Taylor, May, and Paul Rodgers are in the recording studio and couldn’t make this year’s show, so they decided to record the song — with Rodgers, Taylor, and May sharing vocals — as their way of supporting Mandela.
The track is available as a free download, and Taylor said, “By making the song available for free, we hope to help … get across the message that no-one is safe from infection. We have to be aware, we have to protect ourselves and those we love. The song follows the line of (Mandela’s) personal message: it’s in our own hands to bring a stop to this.”
