Singer-guitarist Ricky Byrd is psyched for his upcoming show with rock & roll icon Chuck Berry. Byrd will be among those performing with Berry at the Rock & Roll SUPERGROUP Benefit Concert on Sunday (April 13th) at the Berklee Performance Center in Boston. Back when he was a member of Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Byrd met Berry, but he’s still excited about this opportunity. He told The Rock & Roll Fantasy, “This one goes RIGHT ON the resume!”
Berry often doesn’t have other guitarists on stage with him, and Byrd is OK with that, saying that even if he only gets 15 seconds onstage with the rock legend, “It’s still Chuck Berry!”
- Before Berry comes on, the SUPERGROUP will do their own set, and Byrd will get to sing and play a few songs. The SUPERGROUP, which is making their debut at the show, also includes former Boston guitarist Barry Goudreau, Bad Company drummer Simon Kirke, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, and long-time Rolling Stones keyboardist Chuck Leavell and sax player Tim Ries, among others.
- Proceeds from the event go to the Arlington, Massachusetts-based Right Turn, a non-profit organization that provides support for artists and entertainers recovering from addiction and mental health issues. For more information, go to the Right Turn website.
