THEFT FORCES PETER GABRIEL WEBSITES TO GO BLACK

May 7th, 2008 · No Comments

It wasn’t a simple tech issue that knocked Peter Gabriel’s websites off-line for the past few days. Gabriel’s Internet Service Provider was robbed over the weekend, and the thieves actually removed the servers during the break-in. As of yesterday (Tuesday, May 6th), several of the Gabriel-related sites were still affected, including Real World and WOMAD. There’s no word on how long it will take to get things back to normal, but the Gabriel staff is working to do so as quickly as they can.

Gabriel also took time to let people know that, even with the crime, their identities are safe. A message e-mailed to registered users of the Gabriel websites included this: “We want to reassure you that no financial information was stored on these machines, so if you have purchased through our store, your credit card details have not gone astray with our hardware.”

  • While people’s financial information hasn’t been violated, the servers in question did contain e-mail addresses and passwords for the sites, so Gabriel is advising people to update their profiles.
